Now that you’ve secured yourself an interview, it’s time to prep for it. Part of this prepping process includes determining what questions you plan to ask your agency or employer at the end of your interview.
Asking questions can show the agency or employer that you have a true interest in the role, as well as showing you have initiative.
Right now, you’re probably feeling pretty daunted by the interview, but remember – this is the best opportunity to ask questions that are floating around in your head to ensure this role is the right one for you.
Now, the big question is – what questions should you be asking?
What are your key motivators / what is important to you? This is a great chance for you to ensure this job ticks off those important points that matter to you at your current time in life. Is the location of the job important to you? Or is it the culture of the company? As a candidate, you should always have at least one question that will lead to ticking off your key motivator.
Whether you’re applying for a junior role or a management level role, you will always have someone to report to. Wouldn’t you want to know what their management style is like? This will give you a better understanding of the performance and expectations of the management staff.
For some candidates, career progression is very important. If this is the case, you may want to ask about the company’s opportunities and if they support or provide study and training courses.
Most people want to go to a work place where they can be themselves, and get along with their colleagues. With so many of us spending the majority of our time at work, this is super important to get right. If work culture is important to you, try asking questions around what the work environment is like. What social events do they do outside of work? Or what type of culture does the company encourage?
To wrap up the questions you have already asked, it might be good to end your last question around wanting to know more about the agency or employer’s expectations towards the role. What start date do they have in mind? Or what do they envision this role to be like in the next year or two?
Each individual will have their own reason behind asking each question, however remember – ask the questions that are important to you. Don’t hesitate to write some questions down and take them along with you to the interview. We highly encourage each candidate to ask at least two detailed or specific questions.
